Real installs, budget mods and overland upgrades for the 2009 Honda Pilot.
Follow the full build, gear testing and DIY installs.
THE BUILD
Follow the full transformation of a 2009 Honda Pilot into a functional overland build. This project focuses on real-world installs, electrical upgrades, and budget-friendly DIY solutions. From switch panels and lighting to storage systems and power setups — everything is built, tested, and improved in real conditions.
THE Vehicle
This build is based on a 2009 Honda Pilot FWD — a platform not typically used for overlanding. Instead of a traditional 4x4 setup, this project proves what can be achieved with the right upgrades, smart modifications, and real-world testing. A practical daily driver turned into an adventure-ready vehicle.
THE dream
The goal is to build a complete and unique overland setup — different from the typical Toyota builds. Planned upgrades include off-road tires, suspension improvements, a rooftop tent (RTT) for camping, solar panels, and a dual battery system for full off-grid capability. A reliable, efficient, and fully self-sustained adventure vehicle.
Electrical organization
Installed an Auxbeam 8-gang switch panel to control lighting and future accessories. Clean wiring setup with relays and fuse protection for reliable daily use.
LED LIGHTING INSTALL
LED LIGHTING INSTALL
Upgraded interior and exterior lighting for better visibility and functionality. Includes cargo lighting and exterior pods for off-road and night use.
accessories install
Installed a USB-C fast charger and voltmeter to monitor battery health and power devices on the go.
CUSTOM STORAGE PLATFORM
Built a custom rear storage platform for better organization and space optimization. Designed for overland gear and future power system integration.
